Hooray for Canada Day Weekend!

I have the whole weekend off, including Monday, and it's so nice to have 3 days off in a row, even though I'll have to work for the next seven days straight.

Dave and I spent Saturday driving about the countryside, looking at houses for sale. We had someone come and look at our apartment last Tuesday and they seemed pretty please with the house, so we're preparing for the worst, having to move in the next couple of months. However, Dave has decided that instead of just moving into another temporary apartment, we'll actually buy a house in the area. Even if we only stay in Lunenburg for a couple more years, we can work on a house and sell again when we decide we're moving.

We also went into Bridgewater for a big yardsale that they have every Canada day. Didn't get much, except for the movie Naked Gun 2 1/2 (we already have the first and third movies), a really nice antique green bottle (I love old bottles) and 4 pins that say 'I Like Lloyd'. The pins were the best find. And i got a nasty sunbun from being outside for an hour... I have to start remembering my sunblock!

We ordered some awesome new shirts from Threadless.com yesterday, to add to our Threadless collection. The new ones are Psychadelic Creatures and I Heart Destroy for Dave and Who I Am and SUBterrain (Make a Wish) for Me. I got the last SUBterrain one! Woot!

So today we're just hanging out, not really planning anything. We wanted a relaxed weekend, so we didn't make any plans. We may get together with Amanda & Travis tonight for a bonfire, depending on the weather. And we're going to BBQ tonight for dinner, since we didn't do it last night.

Last but not least, pictures of Skeeter...

She's so cute, but soooo bad.
Finally, An Update!

Sorry for the delay, It seems that I'm always at work, and when I'm not, I'm doing housework and errands.

Today, though, is my day off, so I figured I'd let you all know what's been going on.

So I'm still working at the Boscawen Inn as a Front Desk Agent. Hah, Agent... sounds like I should be all undercover and such. Things are going well there. I've been working for baout a month and a half now, and I'm already refered to as the SENIOR Front Desk Agent. Guess it doesn't matter that one of the other front deskers has been working there for 16 years, I apparently still have seniority. Ridiculous.

I only get one weekend off every three weeks, so the last time I had a weekend off, we went home to Antigonish to meet with a caterer. Turns out that she never called us back, and so we never met with her. Apparently she thought WE were supposed to call her, and we thought SHE was supposed to call us. C'est la vie!

Our trip home was really nice though. Darcy & Keith are both living in the Nish again, so we were able to hook up with them, and of course Alisa, Clarence & Marie. No big partying that weekend, however, as It seems I can't drink much anymore. Everytime I do, I get these crazy chaliehorses in my calfs, and then my legs hurt for days. Dang you, Alcohol!

So for the past couple of weeks I've just been working, and working and working it seems. However, we do have a new addition in the lycan-Rankin household... Skeeter! She's our wee kitten that we've had for just over a week now. She's lovely, but ever so bad. dave and I are both covered in scratches, and his allergies are going nuts, but it's all worth it!

Dave's birthday is thie Sunday, so I went out on Tuesday and got him his birthday present... a Playstation2 and this game that he wanted, Shadow of the Collosus. Yeah, it was a bit of a pricey gift, but he really wanted this game, and they only make it for Playstation. Besides, since he makes video games for a living, I call this 'research'. Now we just have to get the Nintendo Wii when it comes out so we can add it to the GameCube and Playstation.

Anyway, I really haven't any other news. Things have been pretty quiet here. The weather has been super nice for the past few days, so I'm going to take adavantage of it today. We're heading out to one of Dave's co-workers housewarming party tonight so that should be a nice change from work and housework.

Ah, yes, we also got our tickets for Evolve a couple of weeks ago... who's coming with us??? Should be a pretty good time!

Next time I'll post a few pictures of Skeeter, and where I work, and just randomness for fun. I guess the ability to post pictures in Rich text is down right now... Boourns!!

But, Lisa, This is for you:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/rankinh/blacksmith.jpg

Is this who I think it is???? Is it possible he's the Man of Many Hooks from Sherbrooke Village? This picture was on the front page of the online Chronicle Herald one day. I can't remember what the caption was exactly, but it said his name was Angus, he's from Sherbrooke Village and he made the bicycle he's riding. Has he left the Hook business?

I dropped Dave off at work this morning then came home to relax for a little bit. It's my first day off since I started work at the Boscawen Inn last Monday.

I opened the Chronicle Herald site to read the news and there was a girl that I knew in High School.

She was killed in Afghanistan last night.

Apparently she's the first female soldier killed in action since WWII.

It's so sureal, when someone you know is suddenly gone, yet there they are on the front page of the paper.

She wasn't a good friend of mine, but an aquaintence from High School. I haven't seen her since then.

But wow, what a schocker first thing in the morning.

...

So I did finally get a job here in Lunenburg. I had been waiting to hear from Sobeys in Bridgewater when I got a call for an interview at the Boscawen Inn which is just down the street from me. I was hired on the spot and started May 8th.

At first I thought the owner was the nastiest, crotchityest old man ever. He was so cranky and full of blame. But in the last week he's really come around. To me anyway. The girl who started this past Monday thinks he hates her, and the waitress who started last night is afraid of him.

I told them not to worry tho, he's actually a very nice man, you just can't take what he says to heart. He gets all stressed out and needs someone to blame, and they just have to put their foot (feet?) down and level with him. And if that doesnt work, I'll have to talk to him and tell him to stop making his employees nervous.

So Hooray! I have a job.

Dave and I are now DINK's - Double Income No Kids. Beautiful.

Woo Hoo! I just got a job!

I got a call yesterday afternoon from the owner of the Boscawen Inn, a local hotel here in Lunenburg. We set up an interview time for 10am this morning. So off I went, had a little chat with the owner, and was offered the job on the spot. Hooray!

This so beats working at Sobeys, part time, all the way in Bridgewater.

The Inn is only three streets down from our place, and I get full time hours. Right now the job only goes until the end of October, but they are hoping to get geared up to stay open during the winter. Either way, being a front desk clerk at this amazing old building is going to rock my socks.

Hooray for working!

Ah Sunday!

We've been enjoying the nice weather this weekend and I suffered my first sunburn yesterday. I had been outside sanding a little table that I picked up at a yard sale and was only out for about a half an hour, but I baked both of my arms. Delightful!

Today we're heading into Halifax with friends to go to this great big flea market at the Forum. This is something that we'd all been planning for a couple of weeks and this was the first weekend that we were all here and the weather was nice. So off we go.

Keith is coming back with us from the city for his first visit to Lunenburg, and probably his last for a while. He's moving home to Antigonish for the summer, so I won't be seeing much of him anymore. No more trips into the city for funtastic weekends at the apartment.

Two of our other friends, Alisa and Clarence, are also coming down today. They have a week of vacation, so They're coming today and staying until Wednesday. Dave's a little disapointed at this, as he has to work all week so won;t have a whole lot of visiting time.

So I called the Priest at the church where Dave and I wanted to be married (the College Chapel on St. F.X. Campus) and it turns out that it's a no go. You have to either have graduated from St. F. X. or be attending the school to be married in the Chapel. I asked if Father Paul would be willing to marry us somewhere else, but that's a no go too. He's committed to doing the Chapel weddings, so can't do ours. Bummer. So now we have to find another place to be married and another Priest to marry us.

Dang you Mom and your wanting us to be married in a church!

As much as I don't mind doing that for Mom, I do mind that it's getting more complicated.

Well, I had best go and make some breakfast.

Ta Ta!

Another Beautiful day! And I'm still inside working on this silly contract. Boourns.

My plan yesterday had been to 'take the bull by the horns' as they say, and just work through the night so that I wouldn't have so much work to do today ... maybe I could have even finished it all today. But,you know how things go, Dave gets home from work and all I wanted to do was hang out with him. I did 2 sheets last night. Yes, Yes, it is better than none, but pretty pathetic when I think of all the sheets that could have been done, but never even had the chance. Its sad, really.

Dave has given away all of my cigarettes, which is good, because I told him to. On Friday I had convinced him to buy me a pack because I was going nuts and desperately needed a cigarette (or at least that's what my brain led me to believe). So I've been having maybe 2 a day for the past 5 days, but now I can't have any. That is good. I had no problem staying off of them my first week back, then I caved, so I'm giving it another go. As long as Dave doesn't give in to my convincing arguments (or is that he just wants me to shut up about it?) then I'll be ok. Really. I'm ok.

So I had better get into the groove of my work for the day. I have a bit of a long road ahead of me over the next two days, but I can do it. I can persevere.

A few months back, in the town of Bridgewater, about 20 minutes from here, there was a rash of vandalism. It was scandalous.

Today I found this online:

Seems that Lunenburg County (L.B.C.) now has its own gang of vandals lurking about, always at the ready to tag a building (in this case, the beloved Frenchy's), fire hydrant or maybe even a stop sign with "L.B.C.". We both said we weren't going to drink to much, as I had been out the Saturday before, and Darcy's been drinking every day for the past month.

We drank too much.

But we had a whole lot of fun doing it.

I wish I had pictures of Tuesday night, but I was smart and left my camera at home.

Dave's just getting out of the shower, so I had better go start breakfast.

Hooray for Home!

Just a quickie...

Our visit to Truro was great. The Alumni Life-Drawing Day went really well, and it was awesome to see our old faculty.

I was supposed to stay at Bill and Susan's until Sunday, but ended up coming home to Antigonish on Saturday. Mom's shift got switched, so it was easier for Dad to come and get me on Saturday. That worke dout well. As much as I enjoyed my visit with Dave's parents, I was freezing cold the whole time (because Susan won't spend money on heating the house) and I hadn't showered in 3 days, since they only have a bathtub, and I really didn't want to bath in a tub that my 5 inlaws were all bathing in. Call me crazy.

So when I arrived at home on Saturday, my allergies immediately went berzerk. It usually takes me a day or two to get used to my animals again. So on Sunday, when I still wasn't feeling that great, I went out and bought some bendryl and eye drops. But still, on Monday morning, I was even worse. Turns out I've caught a cold, and i guess you could say I deserve it, as I've spent the past 5 days with sick folk and recoverers, all the while claiming that I wouldn't get sick, that I never get sick.

But I am feeling better today.

Lynn arrives tomorrow for her surprise visit,or, well, a surprise for Dad, since she broke down and told mom last week. Then I'm off to pick up Dave on Friday and bring him down here to party with the in-laws. Yee Haw!

Anyway, I think I'll venture outside, as I've been confined to the house since Saturday. Think I may take a spin out to the beach.

Man, I haven't been on-the-go this much in a while.

Dave and I were supposed to head for Truro tomorrow morning for a visit with the in-laws, but it's been changed to next weekend, as we now have an Alumni Life Drawing class to attend at our College. It should be quite the time. 10 to 12 of our old classmates, back in life drawing class with our old teacher and a room full of little first years. Yee Haw!

The release party on Wednesday night was a great time, as always. I behaved myself because I had gone out drinking the night before ans was still feeling pretty seedy wednesday night. Dave on the other hand drank himself to sleep. He drank double rum and cokes the whole night, and fell asleep at the party, so we left to head back to the hotel. On the way home I peed behind someones apartment building, lost my new sparkly bracelet and was almost choked to death when I stepped on the end of my scarf. Then we went to Tim Hortons for bagels, since the closest pizza place was closed. Dave fell asleep in Tim Hortons.

So we're here for the weekend, just to relax and enjoy some do-whatever-we-like time instead of having to stick to a schedule. I'm tired of travelling back and forth between home, the city and Antigonish. But it's going to be that way for the next little while, I guess.

Well, I'm off to play some video games with Dave.

Ah, Vegetating.

Dave on the other hand, was in bed and asleep by 9:30pm last night. Wiener.

We were supposed to head into Halifax today for the weekend, but we decided a couple of days ago that we wouldn't bother. We'll be travelling back and forth for the next three weekends, so we're staying home to relax.

However, I do really need to get to the city to find something to wear to the release party on Wednesday. Also, I have to drop my ring off at he jewellers to get it resized. I called them yesterday and found out that it will take 10 days, which is no big deal, except that the store is closing on March 6th for renovations, so if I don't get my ring back by then, I'll have to wait another week or two. Not so good. That's why i would have liked to go to the city today, even just for the afternoon. But what can you do?

I suppose I should call my 'in-laws' today. I haven't talked to them yet. I'm not overly close with them. I mean, they are nice people and I get along just fine with them, they are just so polar opposite from my family. It's hard to explain. Anyway, I really should maybe give them a call as I'm going to be marrying their son in a little over a year.

I just want to go home to Antigonish to see my parents!

Its killing me that I can't just wear my ring right now!

I think I'll make some waffles for breakfast!

It's just one size too small for my pork chop sausage ring finger, so it has to be sent away to Montreal to be resized. Boourns! I'm just dying to wear it all around, and watch it make sparkles everywhere. I have to wait for 2 weeks though.

My family are very happy, but I don't think they were too surprised. I haven't gottena chance to tell my little sister yet because she's been in Nelson, B.C. for the past 4 days.
crapity crap.

My flight home to Halifax was supposed to leave Toronto at 2:35 pm today, but due to the storm they had in Nova Scotia yesterday, my flight is now delayed 5 hours. So instead of arriving in Halifax at 5:30pm, I won't get in until 10:30pm, and I don't even know if Neil can still pick me up then. There was een a possibilty that he could have driven me home to Lunenburg this evening, but now that's shot. I just want to go home and sleep in my own bed.

However, I've had an awesome time up here in the big city. There's just so very much to see and do in Toronto. Trish and I have been all over the place, exploring, shopping and eating. Although I'm ready to go home, I'm already planning my next trip up here.

Last night we went out to visit my aunt and uncle in Missisauga and had a great dinner with them. They are my favorite relatives on my mom's side of the family. I wish I had arrainged to spend a whole night with them, but they've had busy week this past week.

Anyway, I guess I'll go out and explore a little more of Trish's neighbourhood before I go. There's a great bakery across the street, so I may go and pick up some croissants for Dave. He's a croissant addict. And of course, staying for a few hours longer gives me more reason to spend money! That's probably why I can't sleep. I'm going up to visit my sister Trish and her fellah, Brad. Only three more sleeps!!

The new contract I have on the go is probably the easiest job I've ever had. I'm transfering all of these 20 year old inventory sheets of historic homes in Antigonish County into an online database. I do ten sheets per day, forty per week. I get paid for 35 hours a week though it only takes maybe two hours a day to do my quota. Pretty sweet. However, it also has to be the most monotonous job I've ever worked! It's a bonus that I'm learning about old architecture; I love old buildings and the craftsmenship that went into constructing them.

Guess I had best get to work. I have to do all of this weeks sheet and 16 of next weeks before I leave on Wednesday. Something to keep be busy.

She and her boy have just (meaning they are moving as I type, in a giant Milk Truck) moved into a new place, and I'm going up to help decorate and paint and all that fun stuff! I'm very excited to be going, not so excited to be flying alone. But I have to do it sometime, so I may as well do it now.

Dave and I were both supposed to go to Toronto later in the spring, like April or May, to see Trish, but now that I'm going in a couple of weeks, I think Dave is planning on going to Winnipeg instead.
I'm getting frustrated with this new contract. It hasn't even begun and there are problems.

On Monday I called the curator of the museum at home (who has nothing to do with the project, but is kindly volunteering her help to the CNSA, and of course, she was the one who got the job for me.) to ask if she had talked to the project coordinator, as I hadn't heard anything from her yet. I haven't even talked to this woman. So that was Monday, and she told me she would call the coordinator right away, and I would hear from either herself(curator) or the co-ordinator that afternoon.

I emailed the curator yesterday to find out why I hadn't heard from either of them yet.

This morning I get a reply, telling me that the coordinator was supposed to call me directly after she was done on the phone with the curator that afternoon. Jerk. She never called, or emailed, or sent a telegram for that matter. Meanwhile, I'm waiting here to find out when I have to go into the city for a meeting with the project heads and when/if I have to make the 8 hour trip home to Antigonish to get the friggin project materials.

Ah, the project materials. There are two problems there. My job is to take 1000+ information sheets on all historic homes in Antigonish and Antigonish County and enter them into an online database. Sounds simple. But Oh Not So!!! First problem: The historic society in the Nish doesn't want the sheets to be mailed, in case anything happens to them, cause you know what a perilous journey those sheets are facing with Purolator. Second problem: They (the historic society) doesn't want the information to leave the museum, in case anyone comes in looking for information on a particular building. Well shit! Not like they couldn't call me and I could have that particular sheet scanned and emailed to them within 10 minutes.

I just hate when I have a job to do and things just get more and more complicated. I shouldn't have to pay $100 to go home on the bus and back to pick up the materials. I also shouldn't have to go by the coordinators schedule for a meeting (she wants to meet, apparently, on January 24th, which just doesn't work for me, cause I'll be going back into the city 2 days later for the weekend.) when it's going to cost me $$$ and interfere with my time.

If I knew that this job was going to become so annoying before it even began, I just wouldn't have agreed to it in the first place.

Thank God I never signed a contract.

Update Time (and what a special time it is!)

My trip to Halifax rocked my socks. I had a great time, for once being able to divide my time between friends from school and friends from home. Actually, it's strange, because I usually just meld the two groups together and hang out with them all at once, but this way seemed to work better. No one was vying for my attention, so there was no 'Heather look at this' or 'Heather watch what I can do.' (those are just examples, my friends aren't (quite) that juvenile).

I did crack and smoked a couple of cigarettes while there. It's hard when EVERYONE smokes. I only had four, tho, so a pat on the back for me. And I totally stayed away from junk food, even though I saw my most ultimate happy time favorite treat in the store down the street. I Glanced longingly at it, then turn my head in an anguished motion. It was tough, but dang it, I'm tougher!

Anyways, in short, I had a great time in the city. Sometimes, alot of the time, I wish I was living up there. There's just always something to do, and so many interesting places/people... but then I'd be sad with Stinky Dave down here in the Burg and me in the Big City. C'est la vie!

Dave never went for groceries while I was away, so there's not much food in the house. Last night we made this crazy Corn Chip Salad (spinach, kidney beans, tomato, chilli powder, and of course, corn chips) and Portabello Swiss Burgers. Not such a good night for diner. I was sure I'd like the burgers, not so sure about the salad, and it turned out that I didn't like either. So I had a chicken finger burger instead. See all the crazy shit we're eating because SOMEONE didn't go for groceries. So I'm making him take me out for diner tonite, although he doesn't know it yet...

Man, update time turned out to be not so special in the end. Balls to it!

I'm making a trip into Halifax tomorrow to see our friends, sans Dave. Seems he'd like to have an evening to himself, which is totally understandable. The only "alone time" he gets is when he's at work, and then he's surrounded by 40+ co-workers. It must be tough having a girlfriend like me, with the constant blather spurting forth from my mouth, he needs a little quiet for a night.

That last sentence sounds a little filthy, if ya know what I mean.

Oh heavens, it's 10:35am, and I have much to do today, yet I'm sitting here in my nice, soft housecoat, just wasting time. Actually, I have another 10 minutes to kill before I can take of my tooth bleaching strips. Yes, I know, a little bit vain to be whitening my teeth, but there just comes a time in every crazy lady's life that she needs a little bling in her teeth. I've smoked for the past 13 years, so you can just imagine (if you dare) the state my poor chompers are in. Not so bad, actually, but enough that I notice them.

Oh what else to tell the world...

Oooh! I started my New Years diet last Saturday, and so far I have lost 5 pounds... doesn't sound like much, I know, but trust me, when you've been trying to lose weight for the past umpteen years, 5 pounds in a week is reason to celebrate. I've also been without precious, precious cigarettes since December 30th. So far I'm faring well, but we shall see how that goes when I get to the city tomorrow. All of my friends smoke... like chimneys... like burning buildings... but I'm going to put my new-found will power to work and not smoke. Drat.

Lets all keep their fingers crossed for poor little me. I mustn't fuck up!
